As of late Instagram has been in the hotseat of the Internet Spotlight but not because some of the most beautiful women post their pictures there or because of that awesome new trend, instead they’re in the hot seat due to their increase in ‘Shadowbanning’ and they’re lack of acknowledging where they’ve been in the wrong. What is ‘Shadowbanning’, you may ask? Well, this is the definition I found on our dear old friend, Google.
Shadowbanning: Shadow banning (also called stealth banning, ghost banning or comment ghosting) is the act of blocking or partially blocking a user or their content from an online community such that it will not be readily apparent to the user that they have been banned.
Now that you’ve been informed, let’s talk about it. Recently a Youtuber by the name of Trisha Paytas, who also used to be an Adult Film Actress and also does Adult videos and pictures on her patreon and personal site was shadowbanned for posting what Instagram considered adult material. The picture was of her in a bralette of types that had black strings holding it showing off the fullness of her breasts and quite possibly her nipples, but she crossed her arms over her chest to censor it and was still banned supposedly for posting sexual/adult content.
Sadly, she isn’t the only one that has been shadowbanned. Instagram has been doing this to thousands of Adult Entertainers for similar reasons despite the fact they didn’t post anything ‘sexual’ in nature. Even when Instagram ‘explained’ (if you want to actually call it that) they’re reasoning for it, saying they didn’t allow adult content or sexual activities due to their diverse age groups, etc, what is really considered Adult Content or Sexuality?
Sexual content IS material depicting sexual behavior. The sexual behavior involved may be explicit, implicit sexual behavior such as flirting, or include sexual language and euphemisms.
By this definition 90% of Instagram should be shut down. There should be no couples together, no kissing pictures, no romantic pictures, everything should just appear platonic but Instagram doesn’t appear to work that way. Next definition!
Adult Content is considered such as pornography or violence, that is not generally thought to be appropriate for viewing by children.
Now, to my knowledge and from what I have seen, just because a person(s) is an adult film star, a cam star, an adult entertainer doesn’t mean they go around posting pictures of them participating in any sexual acts. Ie- porn. I can’t say I’ve ever seen the ‘violence’ that falls under adult content and from what I have seen, all the accounts that aren’t quite child friendly all have warnings on them saying 18+ or 21+.
This further proves that Instagram is simply targeting the adult community because they are different, they don’t abide by the ‘normal’ standards of which society has set the rules. They grab life by the balls and LIVE! Instagram targeting them just because they're profession and not because of what they are posting isn’t right, nor are the people who are choosing to abuse the reporting feature.
If Instagram is going to shadowban Adult Entertainers for Adult Content/Sexual Content then they need to ban everyone else that has any of the above definitions in their content. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
